CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Henley
When the butler came out to announce the end of the pool party, I instantly sighed in relief. It had been a lot of work to mingle and pretend to be the old Henleyâthe one who cared about social necessities and othersâ opinions. It felt like a wet suit Iâd put on. Too tight and chafing a little to the left.
âWeâll have to continue this conversation at dinner, Henley,â the couple I was talking to said as we headed to different pool houses. I guess that explained why we hadnât seen anyone.
The butler waited for us, directing our group to the pool house weâd entered earlier. He didnât stop when we got inside, continuing through the door to the house and ignoring the few people inside already changing.
âA warning wouldâve been nice,â Reed muttered as we exited. I snorted but agreed. I hadnât been prepared to see an older manâs bare ass as he got into the shower. At least it hadnât been the front. The butler ignored us, pretending not to have heard or perhaps not caring.
âYour belongings have been transferred to your rooms. You have two hours before dinner is served. Use them wisely as late guests are not permitted entry.â

All those people and it was as quiet as a church mouse in here. I didnât even spot any other staff as we climbed the stairs.
When we made it to the hallway our rooms were in, we all filed into mine without question. Once the door shut, I wanted to relax, but Fletcher held up his hand and pulled out his phone.
